Starr & Langston [2008]
[Starr suspects that Cole and Langston are having an affair]
Dorian: Are you sure you’re not being overly sensitive?
Starr: Oh, you know what? You're right -- I am and it's completely my problem that Cole and Langston are probably out having an amazing time tonight while I'm stuffing V8 Fusions in the gift bags, but I should definitely give them the benefit of the doubt, shouldn't I?
Starr: (to Langston) I know that whenever I'm going through a really bad time, you're the first person that I want to talk to -- even before Cole.
[Todd is planning to move the family to Hawaii and Starr is outraged]
Starr: My dad is extreme, but this -- he -- he's gone completely insane. He is mean, he's stubborn. I've -- I've never been so mad at him in my entire life.
Langston: But you still love him, Starr.
Starr: What does that have to do with anything?
Langston: I just mean you're going to forgive him at some point.
Starr: No, I don't think I'm going to, because you know why? He doesn't love me because if he did love me, he wouldn't be taking away everything that is important to me, anything or anybody that I have ever loved! I can't -- I can't let him do this to me.
Langston: (about Starr) She and I -- she's my best friend, more like a sister.
[Langston comforts Starr after Todd ruined Starr's night with Cole]
Langston: Starr, I am so sorry. I can't even imagine how horrible this night must've been for you.
Starr: It was supposed to be perfect. Cole and I -- we knew that the time was right. I thought that I was going to be scared because it would be my first time and all, but he made me feel so safe. And then my Dad came in and he ruined it.
Starr: Look, I felt horrible for you and Cole when you lost your parents. I really did and I'm sure it seemed like the worst thing that could've ever happened to you, which I'm sure it was because you loved your parents and you respected them and they were everything that a parent should be.
Langston: What are you trying to say, Starr?
Starr: I know that you're going to think that this sounds awful. But if I had to choose between losing my dad or losing Cole, I don't want my dad to be any part of my life.
[Starr decides to break up with Cole]
Starr: Sometimes when you love someone and you really love them, you have to do what's best for them -- even when it means giving them up.
Langston: That doesn't sound like you, Starr.
Starr: It is me. It's who I am now; it's who I have to be.
[Langston learns that Starr and Cole slept together]
Langston: So, you and Cole, you -- you actually --
Starr: Langston, could you please stop acting so shocked?
Langston: Well, I -- I'm sorry but I just -- I can't believe you actually had sex.
Starr: We made love -- it's different.
Starr: Thank you so much. For everything. You have no idea how much it means to me. And I'm sorry that you've had to deal with my crazy, insane family.
Langston: Yeah.
Starr: But selfishly, I'm glad you're a part of my crazy family. You're the closest thing that I'll ever have to a sister.
Langston: Oh -- I love you.
Starr: Oh, I love you, too.
Langston: So you're pregnant. That's a fact, but we're just -- we're going to figure it out, okay? So -- it's going to be okay. Don't worry --
Starr: It's not going to be okay, Langston. It's not, okay? I'm -- I'm 16, and I'm pregnant -- that's not okay.
Starr: Do you know the whole time I was thinking that it -- it can't happen, that it won't happen to me, it can't be true?
Langston: Look, what-- whatever you decide, I'm here.
Starr: I really don't know what I would do without you here to talk to me.
Langston: Starr, we are going to get through this together, okay?
Langston: I got you something. (she hands Starr a book)
Starr: It's "Your Pregnancy Day by Day"?
Langston: So you know what to expect, what to eat -- those kind of things.
Starr: Langston, I --
Langston: Starr, you can always talk to me. But I've never been pregnant. I can't be of that much help. I mean, this is a baby's life we're talking about. You need to talk to somebody else. An adult. You need to tell them that you're pregnant, and maybe they can help you figure out what you're going to do.
[Starr plans to abort her baby]
Langston: You're underage. You can't get an abortion without your mom or dad signing off on it.
Starr: I can in New Jersey.
Langston: Wow -- you checked? Well, how are you going to get there? I mean, Shaun’s on your trail 24/7.
Starr: Okay, is this your way of helping me out?
Langston: This is my way of being realistic.
Starr: Well, I have the realism part covered, okay?
[Langston tries to talk Starr out of having the abortion]
Starr: You're trying really hard to talk me out of this, Langston, aren't you?
Langston: Starr, I just want you to be 100% sure. I mean, what if next week your dad decides that you and Cole can see each other again?
Starr: Oh -- then that'll be great! Then we can get married and we can raise our child together. Langston, I'm 16 and he's 17. I get cranky when I have to baby-sit Sam and Jack.
[Starr gives Langston a disguise]
Starr: Everything you need to be me is in this bag.
[Langston looks at the blond wig]
Starr: It -- it's not my hair, but it's pretty close.
Langston: Uh, yeah -- if your hair was synthetic.
Starr: I have another secret weapon. Now, wait here and try on the wig.
[Starr leaves the room and returns with Jack]
Langston: This is your secret weapon -- Jack? We're screwed.
Langston: What makes you think that Jack's not going to sing like a canary when he gets caught?
Starr: Because he's a Manning and he knows how to lie.
Starr: Langston, I'm 16 and I'm pregnant. Besides my dad hating Cole's guts, he also has information that could put Cole in prison. How is Cole going to make sure that everything's going to be okay?
Langston: All right, listen, what did Cole say? That he loves you? That he's going to take care of you?
Starr: Yeah, he did, but --
Langston: Okay. Well, you've got me, too. I mean, between the two of us, we've got your back.
[Starr plans to run away with Cole]
Starr: This is such a mess. I'm going to miss you so much.
Langston: I'm going to miss you, too.
Starr: Look -- Langston, when my parents find out, I don't know what my dad's going to do and --
Langston: Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.
Starr: I'm going to come back someday, okay? This isn't going to be forever.
Langston: I know.
Todd: You think Starr loves me?
Langston: Yes.
Todd: Seems to me she's got a funny way of showing it.
Langston: All right, well, how would you feel if someone that you cared about kept you away from Mrs. Manning?
Todd: Don't start to compare --
Langston: Starr loves Cole, too. She loves him, and she just wants to be with him. You just don't get that. You know, before this whole mess happened? She used to make you sound like the best dad in the whole world. She didn't want to leave, but you didn't give her any choice. Okay, I swear that we do not know where they went, but I do know that it killed her to leave that night. She loves her family. She loves Jack and Sam and her mom. She loves you.
[Todd is going on the search for Starr]
Langston: If you find her --
Todd: When I find her.
Langston: Tell her that you understand how she feels about Cole, or you're going to lose her all over again for real.
Todd: Maybe you're right. Maybe I was too hard on her.
Langston: See, if she could just hear you say that, then maybe she'd think differently.
[Starr returns to Llanview]
Langston: Look, I know this isn't the way that it was supposed to turn out, but I'm really glad you're back.
Starr: Me, too.
[Starr worries that she won't be able to raise her baby]
Starr: The house that we live in isn't exactly a stable environment.
Langston: Okay, but your mom, your grandma, Dorian and I, we're all going to pitch in and help. I mean, that baby’s going to have more love than any other baby in Llanview.
Starr: Okay, just stop with all the Cramer stuff. Really, it gets old.
Cole: Hey what's wrong?
Starr: Nothing. It's just the morning sickness again. It's such a joke. You know what they should call it? They should call it queasiness 24/7 with random outbreaks of bitchiness syndrome.
Langston: Ok, that's way too long.
Markko: No, wait, how about q-rob 24/7?
Starr: Shut up.
Starr: (to Langston) You know, I want -- I want this baby to have parents who think that giving up on a big night out is the best thing that's ever happened to them, because they're going to get to spend time with the baby. My baby doesn't deserve a mother who's going to look inside the crib and think about all the stuff that she's missing out on just because the kid got born. That's awful. I mean, good parents know what to do, they have this patience. I mean, they know how to make a baby feel better.
[Addie and David got married]
Langston: Sorry, but I mean, are you okay about your grandmother and him?
Starr: She looks happy to me.
Langston: Isn't that the meds? Isn't that Dorian's ex? I mean, she must be freaking out.
Dorian: I have far too many things on my mind now that I'm running Cramer Enterprises to be upset just because... (she laughs loudly) -- my sister decided to impulsively get married!
Langston: (to Starr) This is bull, right?
Starr: Usually.
Langston: Talking to Cole all night?
Starr: I want to but I don't know what I would say.
Langston: "I love you," is always a good start.
[Langston shows Starr the video she took of her attempt to seduce David]
Starr: Okay, what is it, like our "High School Musical" part two? Or the movie?
Langston: Hmm, more like "The Graduate 2008," the home video.
Langston: (looking at Starr's belly) You're starting to show. I can't believe there's a little person in there.
Starr: I know, it's crazy, right? I think about him all the time. And everybody's been telling me that I'm carrying high, which means it might be a boy. Could you imagine? I mean, I wonder if he'll be good at sports, what he'll look like, if he'll look like Cole or me. What he'll be like, you know? I wonder what he'll think about me, if he'll hate me for giving him up.
Starr: I just handled this all better mad than sad, that's all.
Langston: Isn't that a form of denial?
Starr: Okay, denial gets a bad rap. I think that denial works for me.
[Starr and Cole have broken up]
Langston: Do you want me to leave you alone?
Starr: No. No, believe me, I'm really glad that you're here, because you're the only one that's telling me that -- it's not really going to be okay.
Langston: Well, because that would be a lie. This whole thing sucks.
Langston: You're not even going to ask about her?
Cole: What, Starr? Is there something wrong?
Langston: Of course there's something wrong. I mean, no, she's fine health-wise, and so is the baby. But she misses you. I mean, are you done wanting to punish her, you big jerk?
Cole: I'm not punishing Starr.
Langston: Oh, right.
[Langston wants to try to find her biological relatives]
Langston: Maybe my mom had a brother or a sister or a cousin that she didn't want me to know about because she was embarrassed.
Starr: Okay, but, Langston, if she was so embarrassed, wouldn't she have said something to you, like, "Thank God you never met my cousin Wanda because she used to pick her nose at parties"?
[Starr tries to explain why Dorian kept Adriana from her biological father]
Starr: She kept him from Adriana because he was a major criminal.
Langston: Okay, but having the truth kept from her -- Adriana's never gotten over it.
Starr: At least she's alive to be pissed about it.
[Starr is nervous about being pregnant for the first day back at school]
Langston: You want to know how you're going to face the first day of school, and all the other ones after that until you have this baby? You're going to do it with me right there by your side. Okay? I switched all my classes so that I can arrange to be in all of yours. All those bitches and wannabes, they're not just going to have to deal with you, they're going to have to deal with me, too.
Starr: I really don't know what I would do without you.
[Dorian's going to adopt Langston]
Starr: I guess we're like kind of like cousins now, right? We are cousins.
Langston: We are cousins.
Starr: I'm really glad that you're going to be a part of the family now because I really need you.
Langston: Well, you are stuck with me until we're old and rocking out in our rocking chairs at the old ladies' home.
Starr: Rocking?
Langston: Yes.
[Langston's uncle Ray Montez wants to take her back to Colombia]
Starr: Langston, listen to me. You are just as much my family as Sam and Jack is, okay? And I refuse to let him take you away from us.
Starr: You need to fight. And you need to fight now. And you need to fight just as dirty as Clint Buchanan is.
Langston: Sounds like I need to talk to Dorian.
Starr: Well, yeah. I mean, she did write the book on how to play dirty.
Langston: She is kind of like my mom now.
[Langston is about to fly from Llanview to Colombia]
Cole: Well, we can at least ride with you to the airport, right?
Langston: I don't know, I have to ask my uncle.
Starr: What do you mean, you have to ask him? To hell with him. He can take you to Colombia, but he's not going to control us.
Langston: Starr, think of the baby, okay? Don't get too upset.
Starr: Langston, you're the one being kidnapped, and you're worried about me?
Langston: Yeah. What a year we've both had, huh? I don't think either one of us is ever going to forget 2008.
Starr: You are my best friend, Langston. You are my best friend in the whole world, okay? In the whole world.
Langston: The last time that I checked a world map, Colombia was on it. So, you take care of yourself. Eat your veggies. Have your baby. And you come visit me real soon, okay?
Langston: Remember the first time we met?
Starr: Of course I do. I never met anyone like you before.
Langston: It didn't take us long to realize that we got each other.
Starr: I had never had a best friend until I met you.
Langston: We've been through so much together.
Starr: It's so weird. My dad just isn't even a part of my life any more.
Langston: You were so close to him.
Starr: He says it's because we're so much alike. God forbid.
Langston: Do you think your dad would ever go see a shrink?
Starr: Are you kidding me? He thinks he's the poster child for sanity. It's the rest of us that are all crazy, see.
[Starr is in labor with her baby]
Starr: (to Langston) I have two words for you -- "birth control."
[Starr's labor is painful]
Starr: I really do not know if I can do this.
Langston: No, what are you talking about? You're a rock star.
Langston: So, how bad does it hurt? Yeah, okay.
Starr: It's better with the epidural, but -- but before, it didn't just feel like you break your ankle or something or -- or you get a cut. It feels more like your insides are being squeezed.
Langston: Okay, adopting.
Starr: I'm really, really, really scared.
Langston: I know. But you can handle it. You're the strongest person that I know -- besides Dorian, of course.
[Langston visits Starr after the news that Starr's baby has died]
Langston: Feel like company?
Starr: Only if it's you.
Langston: I'm sorry I didn't come earlier. Cole and your mom trumped me. Not like they shouldn't --
Starr: No, I was worried that you were going to think it was sensitive to wait until morning.
Langston: Have I ever been sensitive?
Starr: No, and that's why you're my best friend.
Langston: At least I can still make you smile.
Starr: I think it's the first time that I've smiled since -- since Hope... since she died. Oh, God, Langston. I'm so glad you're here.
Starr: You really got what this baby meant to me. Sometimes I think even more than Cole did.
Langston: I knew about it the first moment you did.
Starr: I wish you could have seen her. She was so beautiful.
Langston: She had to be. She was yours.
Langston: I woke up the therapist that ran the grief counseling Cole and I used to go to. I wanted to know the best thing that I could do for you.
Starr: You're doing it, okay? Being here and talking about the baby, it helps me.
Langston: Yeah, but the therapist said that you might want something to remember the baby by, since you won't have pictures or anything. So I tracked down Dr. Joplin, and I got her to get this for you. It's a lock of Hope's hair.
Starr: Thank you. Thank you.
Langston: You want to go home, don't you?
Starr: Jack and I were supposed to teach Sam how to play five-card stud.
Langston: And after five minutes, Sam would eat the cards and Jack would accuse him of cheating.
Starr: And doesn't that sound like a bunch of fun?
Starr: The adoption was finalized. You should be celebrating.
Langston: I am.
Starr: Then why aren't you out there dancing with Markko?
Langston: Oh, I can't celebrate with you?
Starr: Okay. There is nothing in that adoption agreement that says that a cousin has to hang out with her other cousin that's a complete drag.
Langston: Well, I want to, okay, and you're not a drag. You're sad and you're -- nobody who's sad should be hanging out alone on New Year’s Eve.
